Peer Mentor for CS 544 @ UW-Madison

Madison, WI • 04/2023 - Present

CS 544 is The University of Wisconsin-Madison's latest class on Big Data Systems. I took this class during it's very first offering under Tyler R. Caraza-Harter .

In this class, students are taught how to deploy and use distributed systems to store and analyze large datasets. Unstructured and structured approaches to storage is covered. Analysis involves learning new query languages, processing streaming data, and training machine learning models. Systems covered include Docker, PyTorch, HDFS, Spark, Cassandra, Kafka, and more.

Responsibilites:

  • Help students understand and absorb course material.

  • Help students debug code and brainstorm solutions for their projects (90% of my job since this class is extremley application heavy).
